In the mid seventies, a group of graduates from the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) came together to set up the Toastmasters Club strictly for its graduates. The Club received its charter in February 1977 and recently celebrated its 30th birthday.
The Club was known as AMASIM Toastmasters Club which stands for Advanced Management Alumni of SIM. Due to the lack of logistical support from SIM, it became autonomous and open its membership to the public in 1980. The Club's name was subsequently changed to Lion City Toastmasters Club that year.
Due to the rising costs of holding our regular meetings, the Club had changed its meeting location numerous times: from Mandarin Hotel to Weiqi Association and now to The Pines, located at 30 Stevens Road. The semi-annual dues is $150.00.
The Club is the proud sponsor of SIM Toastmasters Club in 1984, NCOC 1 Toastmasters in 1993 which was later renamed Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club and recently the New Millenium Toastmasters Club in 1998.
On 1 July 1999, our Club members Soh Swee Kiat, ATMS and Augustine Lee, DTM sponsored CPA Australia Toastmasters Club. The new Club would be mentored by S Ganesamoorthy, CTM and Lua Choon Huat, CTM.
On 1 January 2000, our Club members Ng Seng Chuan, ATM-S and Chee Lay Hong, CTM sponsored the STB Toastmasters Club, an in-house club of the Singapore Tourism Board. The new Club would be mentored by Mae Tan, CTM and Donald Tan, CTM.
Our members have served in various capacities in the District as a District Governor, District Public Relations Officer and Area Governors. The senior members are also in demand as evaluators in other Toastmasters Clubs here.
Lion City Toastmasters Club has and always will be one of the leading Toastmasters Clubs in Singapore.
