PAUL'S KERIS PAGE

Links
The following are some links I have found on the net.
Information sites
Dave Henkel's Keris Tajong Site
Dave's page is devoted to the Keris Tanjong from Northern Malaya.
The West knows this keris form as the Keris Pekaka or Patani Keris. This is
a fantastically detailed site which explores the history, development
and construction of the Keris Tajong, its hulu and other derivative forms.
Actual items from Nik Rashidin's (Malaysia foremost Hulu Keris Tajong carver)
collection are also featured. Unfortunately the site is out of commission until
a later date.

Joglosemar
This site is about the Jogjakarta-Solo-Semarang cultural triangle.
It offers an interesting introduction into Javanese culture. Go
to the main index. See the document on Suro1 which discusses
the cleaning of pusaka keris. Also see the new page on Empu Jeno.
Empu Jeno is a keris maker who comes from a family of Empu
who traces its lineage back to the Majapahit period.

The Javanese Keris
This offers a Javanese perspective on the keris. it offers an
insight into the dating system for Javanese keris ie:
the era and periods keris are associated with.
Tosan Aji
This is the home page of the Tosan Aji Exhibition held in
Jakarta in September 1996. The site is down but there is a mirror site
in Ton Van Reen's site (see below). It feature keris from dealers and
private collections. A number of the keris were on sale.
The page is in Bahasa Indonesia and its articles focus on
the mystical and spiritual aspect of the keris.

The History And Lore of The Javanese Keris
Cited from a presentation by Purjadi Soekarno at the Indonesian Heritage Society
A Javanese perspective of the keris with explanations on the prerequisites
of a good keris - what you should look for, the general descriptions
of the keris, the significance of the physical shapes and pamor of
the keris and the functions of the keris in Javanese society.

A summary of keris from Indonesia and the Philippines with general
information on the history of the keris

Ethnographic Edged Weapons
This site is devoted to hand forged ethnic blades of different cultures
which are made in the traditional way prior to the industrial revolution and
advent of mass production techniques. There is a very interesting section
that discusses patterns (such as damascus, pamor, hamon etc) intrinsic
to hand forged steel weapons. Visit the forum page. Its really interesting
and there is a lot to learn.

Gold Bali Keris
This site shows a picture of a royal Bali keris with a gold
hilt of Bayu.

Ton van Reen's Compilation
This site, set up by an enthusiast in Holland, is a compilation of known
keris sites on the web; a one-stop convenience store for keris information.
Ton has a mirror of my website which he modified a little and added some extra
pictures. I think he did a better job than I did with my website.

Commercial Sites
The following are commercial sites with items for sale.
I am in no way affiliated to these sites nor am I recommending
you buy anything. I include them because they have interesting
pictures of keris and hilts.
The Malay Art Gallery
A dealer based in Singapore, my home. The owner, Adni Aljunied, is
always willing to advise and share on keris whether you buy or not.
He does keris cleaning and the cleaning shown in the Muharram page
was done by him.
Kriscutlery: It has a very interesting selection of old
"sandata" ie Filipino term for edged weapons which includes a wide selection of keris from Java
and other types of blades from all over Southe-East Asia. It has a section of new made true to form
blades made from modern steel too.
Oriental Arms: Antique Asian and African weapons
An interesting supplier of a wide variety antique asian arms with a gallery
of his private collection with many interesting pieces including keris. He
is also a valued contributor to the ethnographic weapons forum.
