Moles
(excerpt from "Better Homes & Family)
In the old days, the Chinese had a rather quaint
expression for moles, it was termed `housefly droppings'. Then, the children were warned
by the elderly to stay away from housefly faeces or else some of them would land on their
bodies and turn into moles! Well, in this day and age, some country folk still hold this
to be true.
There are large and small moles all over our bodies and
many of them are permanent fixtures. Some of them even grow bigger while others simply
disappear. Of course the questions that are frequently asked are: Do the moles hold any
significance? Do they reveal our destinies?
Yes, said Master Ong of I-Ching Geomancy Centre. Moles
do tell a story. He said modern research on moles differ a great deal from what is found
in ancient manuscripts. Modern text almost always decry the presence of moles, saying that
they bring ill fortune. This, Maser Ong said, may be due to the fact that many academics
have misread or distorted the ancient texts. So, before you proceed to a beauty parlour to
have some moles removed, please have second thoughts.
Master Ong said that in the old days, moles did play an
important role in enhancing a person's appearance. In the West, it was known that women
decorated themselves with fake moles in a bid to look attractive. This was especially
popular in England in Victorian times. In the East, during the Tang Dynasty, it has been
recorded that daughters of high officials were known to have worn fake moles to enhance
their appearances.
Master Ong said well-located moles are certainly an
asset. They can accentuate one's beauty and are symbols of good fortune. But whether a
mole is `good' or `bad' depends on its shape, position and colour. Master Ong's advice is
that unless the person fully understands the significance of the moles, it is better to
leave them alone. Moles tell a different story, even if they are found in the same
position, for the male or female and moles can be classified as either `dead' or `alive'.
Master Ong said there are many types of moles. The
general guidelines are:
1. Black and red moles that are radiant like wet paint
are auspicious symbols.
2. Brown moles indicate quarrels and conflicts while
those that are whitish spell danger. A yellowish mole signifies loss and death. Unlucky
moles are those that are dull grey or dull black.
3. An unsightly grouping of five or seven moles
located on the left side of the face signifies prosperity. If the cluster is found on the
right side, it symbolises nobility.
4. Moles embedded inside the left eyebrow is a sign of
wealth and if found on the right eyebrow, it is longevity.
5. Moles located on the lips or on the ears are
signs of intelligence.
6. A cluster of moles around the private parts
symbolises noble birth.
