2001 - Year of the
Snake
Year of the Snake
is positive with gradual progess.
On a broader perspective, next year, the
Year of the Snake, should be a better year. The I-Ching prediction for 2001 is
"Gradual
Progress".
Above is the hexagram "Gradual
Progress". The word "Progress" carries a positive tone compare with last year's
"Small Persist". Nevertheless, the word "Gradual" still underscores
the presence of some difficulties and danger ahead. Hence, it is advisable to take things
one at a time, and advance forward gradually, step by step. Any rash act will bring
failure and disaster. Otherwise, speaking objectively, the coming year should be a more
"progressive" one.
The hexagram pictured "wind above the
mountain" represents a sapling (young tree) growing on a mountain, caressed by
the wind and growing steadily, accordingly to the laws of nature.
This omen is not favourable for the impatient
who want to leap and bound for instant success. Their hasty actions will bring downfalls.
From another perspective, the tree is of the
"Wood" element and the mountain belongs to the "Earth" element.
According to the destruction cycle of the five elements, we know that "Wood" and
"Earth" are in conflict. Apparently, last year was "Metal" and
"Earth" which are complimentary. This conflicting scenario does symbolise an
unstable global situation for next year. Thus, it is advisable to remain on homeground and
grow gradually, rather then venture into the unstable world in search of quick returns.
Remember, the wind can nurture the tree to
grow if it is down on earth, or and at the same time, it can uproot the tree if you if you
bold and dare to leave the ground.
The advice for this year is "gradually
progressing in righteousness, a man fit to rule his land. The unmoving quality of the
mountain, conjoined with the gentleness of the wind, give rise to inexhaustible
activity."
"gradually

"Progressing in righteousness, a man fit
to rule his land" "Progressing in righteousness, a man fit
to rule his land" suggests that leaders who are not on the path of righteousness
will face downfall next year. Those that remain righteous will hold office well and remain
fit to rule. The advice is to remain steadfast to your principles, like the unmoving
mountain, but be gentle while handling matters. These are the keys to success in the Year
of the Snake.
