A few anecdotes

Any attentive reader has mentioned any whale shark in the dive report. Actually, I stuck faithfully to my log book (the beautiful new version from Marsden Bros), but there is a (very controversial) story about whale sharks.

On Friday, after the third dive, Charlie proposed a trek on an island of Similan archipelago and dropped all the Marsden’s band plus Justin on a lovely white sand beach with mangroves here and there and beautiful blue water. Charlie talked about a path through the island which led to another beach where he proposed to pick up us at 4.45 the latest in order to be back to the boat for a last dive at 5.00.

Paul did not show any interest in trekking and influenced most of the group to go for a brave 25 m walk towards the bar of the island, just beneath the beach, where they stayed until late 5.30, drinking “a few” beers (so they said).

Back on the boat, the ones who stayed were very excited with the dive they performed meanwhile. “We spotted a whale shark”.  Jealously, the drinkers first didn’t trust them, but Christian could persuade them with a picture from his own camera of the whale shark.

By the way, Marie-Pierre and I messed around on the beach, in the jungle before we walked to this other beach. Marie-Pierre hates being late, so we arrived there by 4.30. We waited for the dinghy until 5.15, thinking we were forgotten on this side of the island. We missed both the whale shark and the drinking session.

The day before, we anchored at Donald Duck Bay, so called because of a rock similar to Donald’s head. The beach there is just beautiful so many boats were staying there as well. Jason went out for snorkelling, Charles and Justin climbed the rocks up to an amazing panorama, a few others stayed peacefully on the beach. Since no bar was available, Paul stayed onboard and spent the afternoon studying anthropology. He took his binoculars and examined all the nicest creatures laid on the beach, or on the decks of neighbouring boats,  or swimming half naked. Paul is a good teacher, he borrowed his binoculars to anyone keen to watch the most beautiful tits he found (all of the males onboard).
