What is Tai Chi?

Many people around the world is very curious and intrigue by this well known and famous skill. Tai Chi is a highly enjoyable way to be relax, centered, balanced, healthy and happy in life. Tai Chi allows you to grow, create and achieve your inner peace, joy, serenity, calm and vitality.

To many Tai Chi looks like a slow and graceful dance or it's a form of exercise done by older folks in parks or recreation centers. Tai Chi is definitely more than that, it's a philosophy, an art and most of all a science. Yes, a philosophy of balance, patience and understanding. An art of breathing, movements and pace for our daily living. A science of understanding about ourselves, the people around us and the world in which we live in.

How does Tai Chi work?

The smooth continuous flowing motion of Tai Chi are gentle much like the movement of water running over a slow moving stream on a quiet lazy warm afternoon. The gentle movements relax your mind and body thus bringing balance health, peace of mind and serenity of spirit to all.

The steps we use as practice is for the exercise as a path towards health and happiness. Most of the steps were originally developed as a form of martial art. Tai Chi today is practiced in many form, usually based on graceful fluid movements and on a gentle but deep breathing motion which relaxes and revigorates deep into our balance and harmony.

Are there many type or steps of Tai Chi?

There are five major school of Tai Chi, the Chen, Yang, Sun, Wu and Wo style. All have their origin directly or indirectly from the Chen style. The Chen style have been around the longest and consider by Tai Chi students world wide to be the purest form of Tai Chi today. But because Tai Chi is a living skill thus the evolution and development are encourage by all teachers to their students. As each generation encompass their personal preferences and traits, each school have it's unique styles or steps. Most important of all is that each style must have the Tai Chi philosophy and teaching.

I practice and teach the Chen style of Tai Chi. For the Chen style, it consist of 2 sets of traditional steps or known as 'LU', 2 sets of new steps and 1 set of small steps also known as small LU or small frame set. I also teaches the sword, sabre, spear, Big Sabre and 13 steps staff all from the Chen style of Tai Chi.

The traditional sets, especially the first 'LU', are more widely practice by all ages because it encompass most of the original teaching of the old masters. The steps are more gentle and systematic with only a few of the steps using the explosive power punch or kick (also known as 'fa jin').

How can I learn Tai Chi? & Can I learn from you?

The steps are easily learned but needs patience to master. A good teacher will certainly be able to guide you to great achievements. I've been teaching Chen Style Tai Chi since 1983 and when our path meets in this life time I would be honoured to be able to share of my knowledge and skill with you.

My life's mission is to bring good health and happiness to as many people as possible in this world. To realise my dream I'm willing to travel to any place in this world to teach Tai Chi. If you have a group of friends who are interested in learning Tai Chi, I can go to your home town and stay for about 3 weeks with lessons every day, either in the mornings or in the evenings. I will be back to check on your improvement and continue learning either twice or at least once a year till a group of you are strong or have master enough skills to continue the process to teach the next generation. So it does not cost much to learn from a master but only your desire and determination.
