General Information
  • Type of Institution
    Primary. The school conducts a full primary school, offering normal academic subjects from Primary One to Six. Singaporeans who are of the right age in Primary Six may sit for the Primary School Leaving Certificate (PSLE) examination conducted by the Ministry of Education, Singapore (MOE).
    Secondary. At present the school offers four years of secondary level education (in the express stream) leading to the General Certificate of Education (GCE) 'O' Level examination conducted by the MOE.

  • Teachers
    All teachers in the school have been approved by the MOE, to teach in their subject areas.

  • Academic Year
    There are four terms in a year. Each term consists of about 10 weeks. The terms are as follows: January-March; March-May; June-August and September-November. There are short breaks of about one week in March and September. In June the break is usually four weeks, and in November and December the break is about six weeks. All scheduled public holidays and special off-days and vacations are kept in accordance with those approved by the MOE.

  • Examination Centre
    San Yu Adventist School is an examination centre for two public examinations conducted by the MOE
    the PSLE which is at the end of the Primary School course (Primary Six) and the GCE 'O' Level Certificate which comes at the end of the Secondary School course (Secondary Four Express). Students who are awarded the GCE 'O' Level Certificate may be eligible to apply for admission to the polytechnic and pre-university courses in Singapore or colleges that follow the British and US system of education.

  • Facilities
    All instructional rooms, Audio Visual rooms, library, computer rooms, administrative rooms and staff rooms are air-conditioned. There are three fully equipped science laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology; a canteen of two stalls and a bookshop.

  • Admissions
    All applicants must have a good report for conduct and attendance from their previous schools to be considered for admission. The school year in Singapore is from January to November each year. Admission in the San Yu Adventist School begins in October and ends in May the next year. For overseas applicants the following documents are required (2 sets of photostated copies are required) :

    (a)     Birth Certificate;
    (b)     Highest educational certificate and results;
    (c)     Passport;
    (d)     6 passport sized photographs of the student;
    (e)     Sponsor's IC
    (f)      Parents' Statement of Account (Fixed deposit) -
    China Students only
    (g)     Parents' employment letters - China Students only

    Documents in languages other than English, Chinese or Malay must be officially translated into English.

  • How to Apply
    The procedure is as follows: (a) enter Singapore on a social visit pass; (b) call at the school general office; (c) take an entrance test on dates set; (d) fill out a registration form and pay fees for the test.
  • Fees
    The following are fees payable in Singapore dollars:

    (a)  Entrance exam fees:
          $75 for primary
          $75 - $200 for secondary
     
  • Books
    The school runs a store where students can get their exercise books and stationery.
    (NB: Textbooks are available at the major bookstores.)
     
  • Uniform
    School uniforms can be obtained from the school store.
     
  • Daily Schedule
    The school conducts classes daily from Monday to Friday. The day begins at 7:45 a.m. with the flag-raising ceremony. Classes for the primary school end at 1:00 p.m. while those for the secondary school end at 1:30 p.m. Some science laboratories classes may be held after 1.30 p.m. There is a thirty-five minute recess each day.
