Tiger Cup 98 Results

Myanmar Vs Thailand ( 1-1 )  Scorer for Myn : Aung Khine

Very promising start for Myanmar in the Tiger Cup 98 campaign Aung Khine(10) scored for Myanmar. Myo Hlaing Win got Man-of-the-match award.

Myanmar Vs Indonesia ( 2-6 )

No comment! Just lousy !!! That's all I want to say

Myanmar Vs Philippine  ( 5-2 )

I have no mood to comment as Myn team is already out of Tiger Cup Competition.Aung Khine won Man-of-the-match award.

General Comment for the team
First 11 for Myanmar National Team in Tiger Cup98 are:
        1.   San Htwe
        2.   Min Thu
        3.   Min Min Aung
        4.   San Lwin
        5.   Thei Khine
        6.   Maung M. Gyi
        7.   Tun Tun Soe
        8.   Maung M. Htay
        9.   Myo Hlaing Win
        10. Aung Khine
        11. Myo Myint Htwe

Played 4-4-2 formation with sweeper role played by San Lwin(4) . Defenders are still shaky. The team is just panic whenever their opponents got the ball. Myanmar gave a lot of space at the wings. (Thai and Indo team saw it and used the flanks).Goalkeeper San Htwe(1) had bad timing to come out from his line.He need to improve( I mean his standard  is not up to International lever yet) .Tun Tun Soe(7) didn't do well after brilliant display at Tiger Cup qualifying round in Myanmar. For me, Maung M. Htay(8) is the lousiest player in the team . Myo Myint Htwe is very fast but bad ball control and lack of idea. As for Myo Hlaing Win, he is as good as ever. His passes are very very good and creative. But he sometimes tried to drop back too far to defend for the team( may be because of his Captaincy).I mean he didn't play his usually role of out and out striker. Instead he sometimes played like a play maker, like that.Myanmar Coach, Aye Maung, has lack of tactics and ideas(for example, against Thailand he substituted Maung M Htay(8) at 43 min although he wasn't injured and against Indonesia he substituted a player once Indo scored to lead 2-1at about 30 min) Among the eight team Myanmar is the fittest team , I think, but Myanmar didn't make it for the second round!!!!!! .

Joint top goal scorer award went to Aung Khine and an Indonesia player.

Myanmar Soccer Team ( Coutercy of Kyaw Win Ko )

Under 16 Team

Contributed by Kyaw Win Ko

If you are fed up with the performance of the Myanmar Football Team, don`t give up yet. We still have hope with the talented players from the under 16 team.Myanmar Under 16 team faced Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Laos in Yangon for Asia under 16 qualifying rounds.Myanmar team was lead by the coach U Khin Maung Tint with the help of the Russian coach from the national team. Myanmar, Japan and Hong Kong were the favorites in this tournament. We played with both 3-5-2 and 4-4-2 systems.
Myanmar - Laos 5-0
No suprise. We won easily
Myanmar - Malaysia 3-2
Myanmar defence was careless and thanks to the fouls, it was 2-2 until
85 minutes. Lucky but we won.
Myanmar - Hong Kong 4-0
Since Myanmar and Japan have the same points, goal difference became critical.Myanmar went for attacking play and from the result, we made the right choice.
Myanmar - Japan 1-2
This was like a final match of the tournament. Only one team will qualify but Japan had the advantage with the goal difference. They both scored 12 goals each but we gave away two goals while Japanese gave away only one. So if the result was a draw, Japan will qualify.Everything went was against Myanmar Team that day apart from the fans who filled up the Thuwanna Stadium to full. We had to play against the wind and the rain but thanks to Myat Min Oo`s beautiful goal, we were
leading until 55 min but as the rain and the wind stopped in the beginning of the 2nd halt the Japanese had the advantage over exhausted Myanmar team not to mention the help of the Thai ref. But believe it or not, we dominated the field most of the time. Just bad luck for us. We did lose but this tournament showed that we still have some excellent players for the future. Myat Min Oo who play just like Myo Hlaing Win, Win Htike who has great speed, powerful and good in air who can replace Win Aung, Tint Naing Tun Thein who has amazing left foot for Maung Maung Oo and most importantly for our football Tun Nanda Oo (goal)who has the potential to match Aung Kyaw Kyaw. Also watch out for good defenders like Maung Maung Myint, Soe Myat Min and Zaw Lin Tun.
The five young players from the youth team were selected for the national team after that tournament. Myat Myin Oo, Win Htike ( scored the opening goal against the Philippines in Tiger Cup 98), Tint Naing Tun Thein, Zaw Lin Tun (Defender with the height of 5'10"), Soe Myat Min and Tun Nanda Oo. I belive that in one day these players will lead Myanmar National Team to the Glory just like the other players from the youth team like Myo Hlaing Win, Than Toe Aung, Aung Kyaw Kyaw did in 93 but to much greater extent.

MAY98P46B.GIF (14969 bytes) Believe it or not ,Myanmar won Asia`s "Team of the Month " award for March 98. It is the month they played for Tiger Cup qualifying matches in Yangon. Myanmar had to play with Brunei and Laos in the group and the top two team would be qualify. Here are some report of the matches.

Myanmar bt Brunie   : 4-1 (4-0 at Half time)

Laos bt Brunie

Myanmar bt Laos     : 3-0 (2-0 at Half time)

Team Manager : U Ko Ko Lay ( not sure)                                                                                    Team Coach     : Leonid Pribylovski ( Russian)
Myanmar First eleven are :-

Aung Khine (10)

Myo Hlaing Win (9) Captain

Than Wai (5)

Win Htun (12)

Tun Tun Soe (7)

Myo Myint Htwe (8)

That Tin? (4)

Tin Mg Htwe (15) D/M

Myint Htay? (2)

San Lin (3) S/W

San Htwe (1) G/K

Here are my opinion of the good and bad points of the players.

Player

Good Point

Bad Point

Myo Hlaing Win (9) ***** (Rating) Goal Luck, Strong foot,  Powerful and Skillful Selfish, Should not be captain
Aung Khine (10)        *** Strong, Experience Lack of Confidence, Not so cool
Myo Mint Htwe (8)    *** Hard working No goal luck
Tun Tun Soe (7)         ***** The best new comer, Goal luck, Strong legs & positive on the ball Just no international experience
Win  Htun (12)        ** Hard working No experience
Than Wai (5)               **** Strong, Experience player. Good accuracy with the cross. lack of pace cauz of aging?
Myint Htay? (2)        ** - -
Tin Mg Htwe (15)     *** played defensive midfielder aging
That Tin? (4)             ** - -
San Lin (3)                  *** Another new comer, cool and lanky sweeper. lack of concentration. no experience
San Htwe (1)            **              quick and good reflex small build, no experience, need to improve in positioning

The team is not so impressive. They played against very weak team like Laos and Brunie. A real test is coming in this year's Tiger Cup. Do you know this year's Tiger Cup will not be hold in Jakarta (because of it's country situations). It will be held in Jahor ( Malaysia) but because of the protest of being Beer Ad, it again will be held  in Vietnam!

Here is my comment on the team.

Myo Hlaing win is the best in Myanmar and probably one of the best in S-E Asia. He has got everything Power, Skill and Goal Luck etc but he is (sometimes) selfish. For me he should not be Captain ( but he is already a senior member in our new team)and still Than Toe Aung is the most suitable person for Captaincy. I agree your opinion about age factor but we need an influence player like him. He can be play maker who orchestrating behind the two strikers. He may have lost his pace but he is very experience and his version is superb. He can also create chances to score for himself when the strikers can't. Talent can't be trained and that why Glann Hoddle waited Gazza patiently until he changed himself. Unfortunately Gazza is ,as you said, like Win Aung's attitude and so Hoddle has no choice but axed . So Than Toe Aung should have ,at least, second chance to prove himself. As for Kyi Lwin, he is just simply too old ( I think he is much much older than the age he is registered , you know what I mean). One of my friends( almost thirty yrs old) told me when he is about twelve he had already seen Kyi Lwin played in Ah Sint Myint Tan club competitions and until now Kyi Lwin's age is 30+ !! For Aung Kyaw Kyaw , he also lost his form already. Another weakness of the team is Goalkeeper Department. Even Aung Kyaw Kyaw is not so reliable! During qualifying matches the very weak teams like Combodia?? they let in a few goal and how can they match against the team like the Thais or Indonesians. Defence also quite shaky when opponents get the ball. I am not so sure but I think the team still play off-side trap which is very dangerous.( I think I already mentioned in my homepage). I say this again because the team like myanmar is not referee's favorite .

Another thing is the way they deal with the man in black.I think they were teacher that ref is always right! so when they were shown yellow or red cards or awarded penalties against them they just stand still, no complain, no problem like that! I am not saying to swear the ref or charged him but at least tell him it should not be the way ,(I mean in nicely) etc so that next occasion the ref will think twice before taking any action.

Dated: 1996 ( I think)

Currently Myanmar Football's (Soccer) condition is not so good! While Thailand is playing against World's Best Clubs like Manchester United for preparation for ( ) Sea Game , Indonesia also touring to Europe ( I think Italy )and Singapore is also playing against Kuwait and Lebanon , what MFF (Myanmar Football Federation ) has done for preparation. I heard that they went to Malaysia and gone home without a win!!! What the players need is exposure and experience. No matter the boys are trained in Thu Wah Nah Stadium for 6 months or a year if there is no international experience, we won't even be in the second round of the tournament!

Another problem is "Attitude Problem" .Some MFF officials are....................................................

Then " Win Aung Saga".Tell me who can replace Win Aung's position(Center Forward)? Myo Myint Htway ? I don't think so.(We have seen him in Chang Mai).To become a striker(the mask man), he must be strong physically and mentally. For modern game,he must be tall and strong unless he has quality like Romario. Remember that the ability to become a striker is not only to score but also to shield and hold the ball (if you are not a real soccer fun, then you won't understand this). Myo Hlaing Win is almost perfect but not in the air. Also he should not be the captain for the squad.

Our main weakness is the defense. I don't understand why we are so keen to use offside trap. Offside trap is very complicated and confusing. Also it is very much depending on the lines men. In Euro'96, even mighty Italy were knocked out by Czech Rep. with offside trap! So for Myanmar team............ Another thing is the defenders are very short. I still remember during Tiger Beer Tournament, our last man(No 12) is I guess less then 5'7"(But he did a great job especially in the ground) . During that time we only had chance to face teams Indonesia , Lous and Vietnam whom they are not keen to use high ball form the flank! If we faced a team like Singapore and Malaysia I think their coaches would definitely use the flank and cross high ball from there because of the heights of our defence.

Another weakness is we are very poor in deadball situation, such as free kick and corner kick! During Tiger Beer Tournament, we had many corners and free kicks but we couldn't converted into even a goal from there.

Our formation also have to change. By using 3-5-2 system we let a lot of goals in (uncountable for me even though only international games are concerned).

We also have lack of a good goalkeeper. After Aung Kyaw Kyaw who is wearing our No 1 jersey? ( I really don't know! ) I guess 3 of our best keepers still fighting for the place. For Thailand team, I heard that they have another coach who's jog is train only to their Keeper! So why not MFF assign to U Tin Aung or even Aung Kyaw Kyaw to concentrate to the Keepers.

Here is by dream best 11.My dream formation is 1-3-4-2. Agree?

Win Aung

Myo Hlaing Win

Maung Maung Oo

Than Toe Aung

Maung Maung Htay

Myo Myint Htway

Myah Tway

Soe Niang

Tint Zaw

Saw Bah Myint

Sai Maung Maung Oo

If I choose Win Aung and Myo Hlaing Win as strikers, all of the 50 million people will agree with me except the MFF official!

Then for midfield, Maung Maung Oo the best left winger despite of his age(31, I think). He has pace, skill and experience. Than Toe Aung is the ideal caption for Burma. He should be our playmaker(I think U know what I mean). Well, for Maung Maung Htay, some may not agree with me. But he has a pair of strong legs. I still remember how he scored against Indonesia during Tiger Beer Tournament. He is Burma's David Beckham( I don't mean by his look!!!!! ).Also for Myo Myint Htway, some may not agree with me.Actually he is a very hardworking man. He also has pace. What he don't have is 'Goal Luck'. So why don't he be in the right wing!

For defence, Myah Tway is big (among Burmese Squad).Soe Niang is good but inconsistency. Also Tint Zaw is good enough for Burmese Squad. Finally Saw Bah Myint is behind the back three! His experience will definitely help the squad.

Sai Maung Maung Oo is in goal. He is big but his reflex is not so good. Also he has lack of experience. After all, I should still not cry for Aung Kyaw Kyaw for the goal. But I feel that the punishment ( life ban for Burmese Squad) for him is too much! Right?
